About Eco Sinergia LLC

An independent, owner-led environmental consultancy working from Helena, Montana since 2016.

Our story

Founded on the idea that a report should be useful

William Smith started Eco Sinergia in a single rented room on Georgia Avenue in the spring of 2016. He had spent the previous fifteen years doing field sampling, compliance reviews and remediation oversight for larger firms across Montana, Idaho and Wyoming, and had watched a lot of good data disappear into documents nobody ever opened again.

The firm was set up to work the other way round. Start with the decision the client has to make — buy the property, renew the permit, satisfy the lender, cut the fuel bill — and build the technical work backwards from it. Everything else, including the length of the report, follows from that.

Ten years later we are still deliberately small: a core team supported by a network of specialist subcontractors and two long-standing accredited laboratories. That structure lets us scale a field programme up for a season without ever handing your project to somebody you have not met.

The name comes from sinergia — synergy. Environmental performance, operating cost and community standing are not three separate problems. Handled together, they usually move in the same direction.

What we hold to

Four working principles

Evidence first

If we cannot show you where a number came from, we do not print it. Assumptions are labelled as assumptions, and uncertainty is stated rather than smoothed over.

Independence

We sell no equipment, take no commission from contractors and hold no supplier partnerships. Our recommendation is worth exactly what it says and nothing more.

Plain language

Every deliverable opens with a summary a non-specialist can act on. Technical detail belongs in the appendix, where the specialists will find it.

Dates we keep

We quote schedules we believe in, tell you early when weather or a laboratory queue moves them, and do not let a deadline arrive as a surprise.

The team

Who you will actually work with

A small core team, supported by trusted specialist subcontractors when a project calls for them.

Where we stand

Rooted in Helena, working across the country

Our office at 685 Georgia Avenue sits a few minutes from the state agencies we correspond with most weeks. That proximity matters: a document hand-delivered and a conversation held in person still move faster than a portal upload.

Field programmes run across Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, North and South Dakota and eastern Washington. Desk-based work — carbon inventories, ESG reporting, programme design, document review — is delivered nationwide, and a good share of it never requires us to leave the office.

We also contribute unpaid time each year to two local watershed groups and a county schools programme. It is not marketing; it is the reason several of us do this work.
